Lifebuoy has partnered with Sightsavers to prevent Trachoma one of the 20 Neglected Tropical Diseases in Africa. Trachoma, an infectious eye disease, is the leading cause of blindness in the world. An estimated 157.7 million people live in trachoma-endemic districts and about 28.3 million actively suffer from the disease, with Africa enduring the highest burden of sufferers. Lifebuoy and Sightsavers created the Super School of 5, an initiative designed to educate school children on Trachoma prevention by the simple, affordable habit of washing hands and face with soap. The program encouraged hand and face washing with soap at 5 key occasions that helped in building recall and cultivating washing as a habit and routine. The materials were designed to be engaging and aid comprehension through comic characters. While children are the most susceptible to the disease they also acted as champions and carriers of this education within their homes and communities.
