Angus McIntosh, Land Services Officer at North West Local Land Services, speaks about the cool burn undertaken in the Gunnedah area as part of the North West Local Land Services’ Cool Burning for Culture project which partners with local Aboriginal communities including the Red Chief Local Aboriginal Land Council, elders and local school students to use cultural burning practices in the management of the local critically endangered Box-gum grassy woodlands. The project aims to improve or maintain the condition of critically endangered White Box–Yellow Box–Blakely's Red Gum Grassy Woodland and Derived Native Grassland (BGGW) by increasing our understanding of the role that traditional fire management practices have in its protection and recovery.
