HAPPY TACO TUESDAY! On 8/17/2025 at approximately 12:02 am, I was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 40 Westbound. I clocked a vehicle approaching from behind my vehicle at approximately 88 Mph. As the approaching vehicle passed, I turned on my lights and merged in behind it. As I was catching up to make a traffic stop, I activated my blue lights. The vehicle began pulling to the right from the fast lane. Eventually, the driver, Mr. Deshod Yancy, stopped on the right shoulder. I made a passenger side approach and advised him of my name and the reason for the stop. I asked for his license, and he advised me that he did not have it on him. He provided an expired insurance card and told me that it was not his vehicle. I asked him to exit the vehicle. When he did, I asked if he had any weapons. He advised me that he had a pistol in his waistband. I retrieved the pistol and checked him for any other weapons. After confirming he did not have any more weapons, I asked him to stand at my passenger side window. While at my vehicle, he provided me with the name and date of birth, Deshod Yancy. When I checked the name through ACIC, I discovered he had a warrant and a suspended driver's license. When I told him that he was suspended, he claimed he did not know that information until I told him. After looking at his driver's history, I discovered that an ASP Trooper issued him a citation on 7/5/2024 for driving on a suspended license, and that he paid $100 to the state to reinstate his license. However, it showed to be suspended indefinitely. He advised me that he had a pistol in his waistband. I retrieved the pistol and checked him for any other weapons. I then asked Mr. Yancy to walk to the front of my vehicle. I met him in front of my vehicle and advised him that he was under arrest for the warrant out of Mayflower. Mr. Yancy had a soft brace on his right wrist and claimed he had broken and fractured his hand. I placed a cuff on his left wrist. After a second of looking for the best scenario to secure him, I was able to place the cuff around his forearm, leaving adequate space between the cuff and his skin, with his hands in front. However, I took the cuff off his right forearm and attempted to place it behind his back. When I attempted this, he began to tense his right arm, preventing me from placing him into custody. I told him numerous times to stop tensing up. Instead of complying with me, he started pulling his arm to the front of his body and demanded a supervisor. While trying to get him to comply, he was advised that there was no supervisor on shift. After a few minutes of struggling with Mr. Yancy, I was able to get the handcuff on his right forearm. Once he stood up, he apologized to me for providing me with a false name. He stated that his name was Antonio Yancy. When I placed him in the rear seat of my patrol car, I attempted to search for the second name he provided me with. While checking, I asked him for his date of birth. When I checked the name and DOB in ACIC, I discovered that Antonio did not have warrants, and his license was valid. However, his photo did not look like the one of the male I had in custody. Mr. Yancy was clearly trying to provide me with someone else's name to avoid being placed under arrest and to avoid any prosecution. I requested a towing service and provided the towing driver with a completed tow slip. I left the pistol in the vehicle and logged it on the tow slip. When Mac's towing arrived, I transported Mr. Yancy to the Detention center. Mr. Yancy was released to the jail staff, where he is being held pending his first appearance.
