Dragons Fall Just Short in Nail-Biter Against Capitals UTRECHT — September 14, 2025. What a rollercoaster night at De Vechtsebanen. The Utrecht Dragons gave their fans plenty to cheer about in a heart-pounding Eredivisie clash, but despite a furious late rally they slipped to a 5–4 defeat against OG Capitals Leeuwarden. The game couldn’t have started better for Utrecht. The arena was buzzing when Hunter Fortin buried the opener, and moments later alternate captain Indy Bontan doubled the lead. At 2–0 up, the Dragons faithful were on their feet, sensing a big night. But Leeuwarden had other ideas. They clawed their way back with a reply in the first, then tilted the ice their way in the second period, turning the game around and putting Utrecht under pressure. The third period was pure drama. Captain Vince van de Kraak sparked hope with a goal to pull Utrecht closer, but the Capitals struck back twice in quick succession to restore a two-goal cushion. The Dragons refused to quit — and when Tim Schaasberg fired home with just under three minutes left, assisted by Geerligs and Van de Kraak, the crowd roared as if the roof might come off. With the clock winding down, Utrecht threw everything at the Capitals’ net. Fans were on the edge of their seats as chance after chance just missed the mark. Goaltender Arwen ten Cate stood tall for Leeuwarden, and when the final horn sounded, the Capitals celebrated a hard-earned 5–4 win while the Dragons were left wondering what might have been. It was a bruising, passionate game with penalties flying on both sides, but the biggest story was Utrecht’s fighting spirit. Even when momentum slipped away, they kept pushing until the final seconds — and their fans loved them for it. The Dragons may not have taken the points, but they proved again that at De Vechtsebanen, they will always fight to the end. https://api.hockeydata.net/data/ih/Ga...
