VENICE, CA — Wednesday, July 2, 2025 — A coordinated multi-agency cleanup operation took place Wednesday morning along the Venice Beach Boardwalk, with authorities enforcing a city-issued sanitation sweep following public notice posted earlier in the week. The operation focused on Ocean Front Walk near the Rose Avenue parking lot and was part of the City of Los Angeles’ broader strategy to improve public health, safety, and accessibility at one of its most heavily visited coastal corridors. City officials had issued a formal cleanup notice on June 30, requiring all personal belongings to be removed from the posted zone by 6:00 a.m. on the day of the operation. Cleanup crews, including personnel from the Department of Public Works, LA County Beaches and Harbors, and Clean Harbors Environmental Services, conducted power washing and sanitation work throughout the designated area. The effort was scheduled to conclude by 5:00 p.m. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) oversaw enforcement duties during the sweep, while outreach workers from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) were on-site distributing essential supplies—including food, water, clothing, and hygiene kits—to unhoused individuals. During the operation, officers made contact with a man experiencing homelessness who was advised to relocate in accordance with the posted notice. His belongings, left behind at the time of the sweep, were collected and processed per city protocol. According to LAPD, no arrests or citations were issued. Items removed during the sweep were transported to The BIN—the city’s designated property storage site at 507 Towne Avenue in Los Angeles. Stored items will be held for up to 90 days unless deemed hazardous, in which case they may be discarded immediately. The BIN operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Staff from the office of Councilwoman Traci Park were also present, observing and coordinating aspects of the operation. Their involvement highlights the city’s dual approach—pairing sanitation and enforcement with service-based outreach. The July 2 operation is one in a series of ongoing efforts by the City of Los Angeles to manage public space and offer pathways to housing and support services for the unhoused population.
