Defenders of Wildlife’s Center for Conservation Innovation recently released a report on the five leading drivers of biodiversity loss in the United States. This symposium is the second in a national series of webinars to present and showcase those challenges. Rhode Island ranks highly nationwide for a couple of the leading threats to biodiversity, according to a study by Defenders. Invasive species is one of the key threats to the state’s biodiversity. The large number and diversity of non-native species can have negative consequences for species and habitats in this area. This webinar will examine the leading causes of and solutions to the biodiversity crisis in Rhode Island and help stimulate meaningful actions, while highlighting current actions, within the state to address some of the leading drivers of biodiversity decline. During the Rhode Island in Focus webinar you will hear from a panel of wildlife and conservation experts who will speak on the biodiversity loss drivers and solutions in the state and southern New England. The panelists include: Senator Dawn Euer, Rhode Island Senate Member, Representing District 13 Dr. Lindsay Rosa, Vice President of Conservation Innovation and Research, Defenders of Wildlife Dr. Laura Meyerson, Professor in the Department of Natural Resources Science, University of Rhode Island Dr. Tracy Rittenhouse, Associate Professor in the Department of Natural Resources & the Environment, University of Connecticut Amanda Freitas, Wildlife Action Plan Liaison, Rhode Island Natural History Survey
