Vogel State Park - Coosa Backcountry Trail

Music: “Walk With Me” by Jesus Culture I went on a day hike at Vogel State Park on the Coosa Backcountry Trail. A 12.9 mile loop with the trailhead located in Vogel State Park. There is a short access or connector trail leading to the Coosa Backcountry Trail loop which travels through the Chattahoochee National Forest for most of the 12.9 miles. I chose to take the loop in a counterclockwise direction. The trail leads one near the summit of three peaks: Coosa Bald, Wildcat Knob, and Slaughter Mountain. I stopped for lunch at a beautiful campsite near Call Stomp Gap. There were some amazing sights along the trail. This loop is not for the novice hiker especially as a day hike. To complete this trail as a day hike one must travel at a fast pace. There are several excellent campsites along the trail affording an easy opportunity for an overnight.
