The Ga people inhabit the southeastern part of Ghana today, but initially they came from another place. There are variant versions of where they migrated from. Some versions connect their root to Israel; Others have it that they came from Benin, Togo, and the Mossi region, present-day Burkina Faso. According to Odotei (1991), the Ga's believe that their ancestors mysteriously fled from Ile Ife in ancient Nigeria in columns like soldier ants along the Gulf of Guinea to their present settlement in a date which is hard to trace, so we will go by the widely used version, which has it that, the Ga may have arrived in their present location c.14th century or the 16th century from Benin, Ife, and Ilorin. The 14th century looks more authentic, as most scholars use that date. The Ga and the Dangme were of the same stock. The Guan and the Akwamu influenced the differences in the languages. The Akwamu are an Akan group that emerged as a powerful state in the 17th century. The Akwamu are known for their military prowess and their role in the regional politics of southern Ghana. Historically, the Akwamu expansion led to conflicts with other groups, including the Guan and Gas. The Guan is a homogeneous group, with various subgroups. The original Ga immigrants were farmers, but today they are primarily engaged in fishing and trading. DISCLAIMER: I do not have the rights to some of the pictures used in this content.
