Excelling in academics requires confidence, vitality, focus, memory, structure and routine. Depression is the opposite of that. As depression grips, one loses sense of himself and even small tasks appear big and impossible. One's confidence takes a dip with failures in day to day tasks. The attention span also reduces significantly during depression, leading to lack of memory formation. When one is depressed it becomes almost impossible to memorize facts, as is often required by the current educational system. About TEDx, x = independently organized event: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
