Slow Train to Samarkand | Tashkent Central to Samarkand on board the ‘Nasaf’ In this video I am in Uzbekistan taking a trip on board the 'Nasaf' slow train travelling from the capital, Tashkent, along a modern two-railed version of the Silk Road to the ancient city of Samarkand. Three categories of train operate regular services between these two central Asian cities, each offering different levels of comfort and speed - this is the most leisurely of the three with a journey time of 3 hours and 25 minutes for the 340km journey, at an average speed of 100kph (60mph). Experience insights on what it is like to travel on a traditional train in Uzbekistan, and the landscapes of Central Asia (be warned there's a lot of Steppe out there!). This is part 1 of two videos on this route. Part 2 sees me make the return to Tashkent on Central Asia’s only high speed train ‘Afrosiyob’. Sit back and enjoy - hopefully it inspires you to make your own trip on this route. And more importantly choose the train for the journey!
