First, we welcome four new hens to our little flock! When we first moved here, getting chickens felt like a great first step toward a more self-sufficient life. Over time, they’ve become part of our daily rhythm, roaming freely around the property and following us from task to task. But with just two hens left and one rather enthusiastic rooster, it was time to bring in some balance—and hopefully, encourage a bit of brooding too. Meanwhile, the southern French wind—le Vent d’Autan—has been sweeping through. It’s a warm, dry wind that’s said to affect your mood, and after a few days of it, we can confirm… it really does! On the bright side, it’s helped dry out the soil, which makes it possible to continue work on the driveway. With the dumper still out of order, we rely on the digger bucket, a wheelbarrow, and sheer determination to move materials around. Philippe rewelds two broken legs of the rock sieve—no surprise there, given how many stones it’s already processed—and then gets to work digging the second section of the driveway. But with rain on the way, plans shift slightly. Instead of digging deeper, we focus on scraping off the top layer of grass that’s taken hold on the gravel. Not only will this help reduce the mud in front of the house, but it also means that once Philippe starts sifting, clumps of grass won’t clog up the rock sieve—making the work much smoother. Thanks for joining us again—whether it's chickens, gravel, or wild southern winds, there's always something going on here! °°° MUSIC | We use epidemic sounds for our music: https://www.epidemicsound.com/music/f...
