"The Kyrie is a reflection of my more recent encounters with choral music, perhaps mainly from the great contemporary US choral composers. The first and last part in a mainly descending and dissonant character, whilst the 2nd part is coloured by mainly an ascending character, but to the end descending again. The setting ends up in quite a somber and dissonant character, in a colourful D flat major chord, leaving it hanging almost as a question mark. " Thomas Caplin
