"The observant reader may have discovered that the first four settings are all in B-keys. This is of course a deliberate choice, since B-keys to my opinion always sound better in choir. However, the last setting - O Sacrum Sonvivium - is in a brighter key choice. But even if C is the major key here, it doesn’t always rest in this key. Even thoug the composition finally sets on a restful C major chord, it is really the harmonic restlessness that to me is the most interesting. It reflects my own relation to the church, in which I grew up and by and by detached from. The church for me became more and more the spiritual music that dwells and resides in it, which has played such a monumental role throughout my musical life. The hesitant start reflects me at the back of the church, not sure I want to take part in the holy communion. But I start walking up the aisle, but then pausing again, still dubious. Eventually I join Jesus in a slow waltz, and find my home with Him. " Thomas Caplin
