From Asia to Argentina: A new #NTUsg-led study has found that early humans migrated over 20,000 kilometres from North Asia to the end of South America about 13,500 years ago. The study, led by scientists from the Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) and Asian School of the Environment (ASE), and supported by the international GenomeAsia100K consortium, found that the long #migration reduced the #genetic diversity of the #migrant population over the years, which then resulted in a reduced #immunity to infectious #diseases for #migrant populations. The research offers offers insights into how different populations respond to diseases and how their immune systems have evolved. It also demonstrates how advanced genomic tools and global collaboration can deepen humanity’s understanding of human evolution and inform future medical and scientific breakthroughs. #NTUsgResearch #Genomics #Genes #Genetics #HumanMigration #Diversity
