Today we take a calm and honest walk through some of the social housing neighborhoods (logements sociaux) in Tournai – a city with a very human-scale approach to public housing 🏡💙 In Tournai you won’t find huge concrete towers like in some big cities. Social housing here is mostly low-rise buildings (2–5 floors), red brick, integrated into normal streets, with green spaces, playgrounds and small community areas 🌳🛝 Most interesting areas we visited: Saint-Piat & Îlot Madame 🏠 Modern renovated blocks + new small buildings (2024–2025). Clean facades, new windows, balconies with flowers, children playing outside – very lively and family-friendly atmosphere! 👨👩👧👦🌸 Cité Jardins / Rue du Jonc area 🌷 Classic garden-city style from the 1950s–1960s: rows of small houses + low apartment buildings, lots of greenery, trees, little gardens in front. Feels almost like a village inside the city 🍃🏡 Kain district 🚲 One of the largest concentrations of social housing. Mix of older renovated blocks and newer constructions. Wide streets, many families with bikes, small shops nearby. Very practical and calm neighborhood 🚶♂️🛒 Chercq & Saint-Jean surroundings 🏙️ Closer to the center – small clusters of social apartments inserted among historic houses. You can walk to Grand-Place in 15–20 minutes ⛪✨ Froyennes, Barry, Rumillies 🚌 More suburban / village-style social housing: individual houses or small groups of apartments. More space, quieter streets, good bus connections (TEC) 🌾🚌 Everywhere the same feeling: no isolation, everything is mixed with private homes, people greet each other, children ride bikes, elderly sit on benches. Many buildings renovated in recent years – better insulation, solar panels on some roofs, new playgrounds 🛝☀️ Tournai shows a very Belgian approach: social housing is part of the city, not separated from it 🏙️🤝 Watch the full video for a real walking tour: Street views of the most typical buildings Green spaces and playgrounds How social housing blends with historic Tournai Honest impressions & local atmosphere 🔥🎥 LIKE 👍 if you enjoy real city tours and everyday life videos COMMENT 📝 Which neighborhood surprised you most?
