This is an unreleased prototype of Maze Invaders, produced for arcades by Atari in 1981. The game was cancelled after a poor field test. Only two units were reportedly made. The objective is to pick up fruits in mazes with constantly moving walls while avoiding enemies randomly floating around, then escape to the next maze by passing through green doors. The player can eliminate some enemies and stun others by shooting, and there is also a Reverse button that allows the player to move on one direction while firing in the opposite direction. There is also a green vertical line dividing each stage in the middle which slows down the player when moving over it. If the player touches an enemy or gets hit by an enemy shot, the player loses one life. The game is over when all lives is lost. There is the option to continue from the last reached level. The player can choose one of 4 levels to begin at before starting a game-interestingly, there seems to be no levels 1-3 as level 4 is the lowest starting choice available. The game is believed to be endless. It's a very clever take on maze games while fusing elements of other games like Berzerk with the ability to move freely around mazes while shooting enemies, while the constantly moving walls add unpredictability. Although never officially released, it is included in "Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration" available for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch and PC.
