Highlights from a few days up in and around the Midlands where I had the chance to get out and about between other commitments. Across the three days we begin with action from Tamworth and Derby, where we see Class 93 93006 returning from a trial with DB on intermodal services, Class 37s 37424 and 37425 ‘Concrete Bob/ Sir William McAlpine’ with a UTU and 37501 ‘Teeside Steelmaster’ all in and out of Derby RTC, various freights at Tamworth, then on Thursday 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’ being towed from the NRM to Tyseley by 37240 for this weekends excursions with Vintage Trains, and on Friday 34067 ‘Tangmere’ making a very welcome appearance heading back down South for the first time on a while ready for a Valentines trip tomorrow, and the 125 groups immaculately turned out 43025 ‘Exeter’ and 43060 ‘Heston 150 1875 - 2025’ heading to the East Lancs in their newly applied Intercity and GNER heritage liveries complete with x3 Intercity Mk3’s as well as lots of other out of the ordinary action. We also take a trip to Newark on Friday where both Colas Class 67s 67027 (formerly ‘Charlotte’) and 67023 ‘Stella’ now currently reside and see them leaving on Friday morning with a working up to Doncaster for a shakedown run ahead of their new duties so not a bad few days of action in the area and between all the rain there is the rarest catch of all, a spot of sunshine!
