We did a side-by-side demonstration of the commonly used liquid rust removal products including: Rust Release, Evapo-rust, Metal Rescue, and standard distilled white vinegar. After testing these products on a bunch of different hand tools (with and without rubber-coated handles), Rust Release performed the best, and in the shortest amount of time. We saw very good results in as little as 15 minutes. Evapo-rust and Metal Rescue performed almost equally to each other. Both products removed rust, but they both took considerably longer than Rust Release, and did not do as thorough of a job as Rust Release. The distilled white vinegar was the only acidic product tested. In the short (1 hour) period of time that this test was performed in, the vinegar did not remove any rust.
