Karaikudi S. Subramanian speaks: “Five years past, five summers, five long winters”, when I last met Tony MacMahon at Brhaddhvani, a remarkable man and a remarkable meeting! There is a special bond between Ireland and India, for many reasons. The flags are symbolic of that friendship of people of these two countries. Now he is no more in the physical world. But his radiant love for cultures, musical explorations, his humility, genuine undemanding friendship, love-loaden affectionate smile still haunt my mind when I think about him. The vina music which is heard now is what I have attempted on the vina to depict the confluence of two music cultures through the inter-relatable scalar idea transmuted into new perspectives on the musical styles of the two cultures - Irish and Indian.
