In this session of the Connector.pk Exclusive Webinar Series 2026, we were honored to host Mr. Stephen Burnage, a renowned international education consultant and expert in staff development, school improvement, and leadership. The webinar explored “Reducing Teacher Workload Through Smarter Assessment and Feedback,” addressing the global challenge of the "marking fallacy" and providing educators with practical, high-impact strategies to reclaim their time while improving student outcomes. Key themes discussed in the session included: Moving from Marking to Feedback: Shifting the focus from backward-looking evaluation to forward-looking "recipes for improvement." Whole Class Feedback: Implementing "feeding forward" techniques to address common errors efficiently and save hours of individual marking. Targeted Feedback & Minimal Marking: Using codes and prompts to make students active correctors rather than passive recipients of grades. Empowered Self and Peer Assessment: Utilizing rubrics and the "Praise, Question, Polish" structure to foster student ownership and metacognition. Balancing Workload with Frameworks: Navigating external requirements, such as the Cambridge assessment framework, while maintaining a manageable workload. Through our Exclusive Webinar Series, Connector.pk aims to create a global platform where educators and education leaders can exchange ideas, share best practices, and collaborate for meaningful change in education.
