On the first day of summer, brand new tier 4 locomotives lead the westbound NS 23Z on the Norfolk Southern Pittsburgh Line and Fort Wayne Line. These two units took their first trip east on the NS 20T the day before. So after checking out seeing these units were coming back west, it was time to bust out the camera and get trackside. Drove out east to Tipton, PA for the first location where I met NS 21J and NS 20T. Not long after 20T's rear end cleared the bend, NS 23Z rounded the curve in notch 8 climbing the roughly 0.8% grade. Next location for the chase was Galliztin, PA catching the units pulling out the Alleghany Tunnel. From there (due to slow drivers) was forced to go Emsworth, PA just outside Pittsburgh. After that knowing the train was going to get a recrew in Conway I took the opportunity to get ahead of them again. High tailed it to New Galilee, PA on the NS Fort Wayne Line. Tried to catch again but with a 60MPH railroad and slow back roads the train got far ahead. So decided to call it quits for them and stopped in Columbiana, OH to catch NS 21J under a nice sunset.
