As I continue my series on the Leonardo MadDog, it is time to try a full RNAV STAR and Approach. What better place to do it than in beautiful New Zealand. The mountainous terrain STAR and winding RNAV approach spices up the topic a little. I am very excited to do this series. By many accounts, the Leonardo MD-82 (Mad Dog) (Super 80) is the best add-on in MSFS. I've been watching as many instructional videos as I can stand. I'm just now ready to do fly. However, I'm all in and I want to take you along on my MD-80 journey. Why follow me? well, I am a former MD-80 Captain and Check Airman with American Airlines. I will supplement all of my videos with "War Stories", hence the name of the series will be "Story Time with Father Time". Shout out to Twitch Streamer and outstanding instructor Moosestaffa! The guy rocks. Here are the eight MADDOG sections that I have accomplished. 1. Orientation 2. Preflight 3. Push, Start, taxi and takeoff and SID 4. STAR, Approach, Landing 5. KBOS-KLGA (Divert to KJFK) Mised Approach and CAT III 6. Vmcg and Vmca demonstration is Queenstown, NZ 7. Queenstown, NZ cold/dark through engine failure and sim freeze! 8. Wow! FSI Panel 2020 used to program an engine failure! 9. JFK-LGA using FSiPanel 2020 for MSFS 10. MadDog does the Miracle on the Hudson 11. RNAV STAR and Approach into mountainous terrain. NZCH-NZQN Please consider joining our Discord: / discord I went over to P3D for the PMDG 777 as I was a real 777 Captain, and flying several aircraft on MSFS was affecting my job performance. On the other hand, flying the 777 on P3D actually helped me at work. No rap on P3D, as I really loved the honesty and performance accuracy of the study level PMDG 777. However, I am trying to build a following, and MSFS is by far the most followed. I am a 1958 vintage pilot with over 21,000 flight hours. I currently reside in Connecticut. I am a 1980 US Air Force Academy graduate and a seven-year Air Force instructor pilot. I have flown for a major US Airline since 1987 and I retired in September of 2023. I have been type-rated in the MD-80, B-737, B-757, B-767, B-777, A-300-600 and the MD-11. I am a recently retired (9/6/23) 777 Captain. I have traveled the world and I have come to the conclusion that there is no place like home. It's been a great ride. I am very new to the MSFS and P3D world and I love it.
