Beloved in Christ, For the past several weeks, we have been walking together through this Epiphany series called Meeting Jesus: Epiphany Encounters. And each week, Scripture has been teaching us the same central truth again and again: • Epiphany is not about our movement toward God. • Epiphany is about God revealing His Son to us. Epiphany is not human discovery. It is divine revelation. In Week One, we met Jesus from a distance. God placed a star in the sky and guided outsiders— the Magi—step by step to a Child they did not yet fully understand. They did not climb their way to heaven. Heaven reached down to them. The light led them, and when they encountered Jesus, they worshiped. In Week Two, Epiphany came closer. The star disappeared, and we found ourselves standing at the edge of the Jordan River. There, Jesus did not stand above sinners. He did not observe repentance from a distance. He stepped into the water and stood in the sinner’s place, fulfilling all righteousness for us. In Week Three, Epiphany came closer still. No star. No river. Just a man standing before us—and a voice pointing directly at Him: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” And Jesus Himself invited uncertain, searching people with simple grace: “Come and see.” Each week, Epiphany has been moving closer. From the sky → to the water → to standing face-to- face with Jesus. And now today, in Matthew chapter 4, Epiphany takes another step forward. Jesus is no longer a Child receiving worship. He is no longer silent in the river. He is no longer being pointed at by John. • Now Jesus speaks. • Now Jesus goes. • Now Jesus calls. Matthew shows us what happens when the Light does not merely appear—but moves into the world. Hope you get to listen to this short 24 minute sermon.
