🎸Steve Costello plays his own style rendition of "Little Wing" Take 5, with Cosmo providing great background. "Little Wing" is a song written and performed by Jimi Hendrix in 1968, and later performed as a guitar instrumental version with no vocals by Stevie Ray Vaughan. These Steve Costello takes are guitar instrumentals, with no vocals, similar to SRV's renditions. 🎸There are a number of takes containing different renditions of "Little Wing" that Steve Costello has played, as each one is improvised. Some are short, and some much longer. This version, Take 5, is a shorter length take, being less than 4 minutes long. Each take is different and unique, complete with both high points and idiosyncrasies, so they are what they are, being mood variations of the "Little Wing" theme. 🎸Steve's guitar playing is his own style, but is influenced by and similar to Jimi's style (along, of course, with other artists influence) playing improvised riffs, various chords, bass lines, scales, open strings and a lot of feedback producing unique guitar sounds. Cosmo provides an excellent background with his Yamaha keyboard. 🎸 This was one of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's greatest songs, and it was played in a few live concerts from 1967 through early 1969. The main influence for this rendition of "Little Wing" was Stevie Ray Vaughn's studio and live versions, plus Jimi Hendrix's studio version and more so the various live versions, with most of them being from "audience tapes", therefore Steve's main influence is coming from many of these audience tapes of SRV's and Jimi Hendrix's live shows where "Little Wing" was played. Audience tapes have a unique purity, for what they lack in sound quality, they make up for with clean impressions, with no sub audio overdubs. 🎸"Little Wing" was played in a few of Jimi's earlier sets from 1967 through early 1969. I have many of these recordings, along with my own recordings, and these are the recordings which I am now remastering with Audacity, and putting these songs up on this channel. There are many tapes, and some have been re-mastered, and there are still many more to do - it's really a lot of work, but the end result is well worth it, as there is much stress dealing with analog issues such as matching various tape speeds and pitch, an occasional tape that gets "eaten " and the hassle of repairing it, and tape deck trim pots oxidizing.
