The bay is a mixture of sandy beach and rocky outcrops which create a mosaic of different and pleasing textures and colours, particularly when viewed from above. On arrival at the carpark, there is a short walk through some trees and bracken to Mossyard beach, a beautiful sandy beach flanked by rocky outcrops formed in a linear pattern. There the views of Mossyard Bay open up and on the beautiful morning which we were fortunate enough to get, looked spectacular. There had been torrential rain overnight which I think may have contributed to the muddy colour of the water, presumably from mud being carried by the rain down the hillsides into the sea. Over to the east of Mossyard beach is another larger beach which contains a twin beach, which remains exposed at high tide with the sea on both sides. Further out a rocky outcrop called the Garvellan Rocks look imposing and get cut off from the land at high tide. They are an impressive coastal feature, particularly as they contain the beautiful Mossyard Millennium Labyrinth, a classical unicursal labyrinth, built by local children in July 1999 to mark the millennium. Again this looks particularly good from the air, so I was pleased to capture this on such a beautiful morning. I hope you enjoy the video.
