Former Manyatta OCS says he found five shaken officers at Kianjakoma brothers’ death scene Former Manyatta Police Station OCS Abdala told the court that on the night the two Kianjakoma brothers died under unclear circumstances, he received a call informing him that officers on patrol had arrested ten suspects. However, when the suspects were later booked at the station, only eight were presented. In his testimony, Abdala said he proceeded to the scene where he found Corporal Mbuthia, Corporal Consolata, PC Jeffa Mwaniki, PC Wanyama, and PC Cherono present near the spot where the two bodies lay. He described the officers as visibly shaken and appearing to be in shock. Another witness, Chief Inspector Peter Terer, testified that by the time he arrived at the scene, the two brothers were already dead. He told the court that their heads had been severely smashed, with their brains exposed. The court further heard that two eyewitnesses allegedly overheard the brothers discussing the possibility of jumping from a moving police vehicle. According to the testimony, these eyewitnesses were the last known individuals to have seen the brothers alive. Chief Inspector Terer confirmed this information during cross-examination by Advocate Danstan Omari. The Kianjakoma brothers case concerns the alleged murder of Benson Njiru Ndwiga and Emmanuel Mutura Ndwiga, who reportedly died at the hands of police officers during the enforcement of COVID-19 lockdown regulations in Kenya. At the time of his death, Njiru was 22 years old and an engineering student at the Don Bosco Technology Training Institute, while Mutura, aged 19, was a law student at Kabarak University. The alleged killings came to public attention on August 2, 2021, following widespread media reports. Subsequently, on August 17, 2021, six police officers Benson Mbuthia, Consolata Kariuki, Nicholas Cheruyoit, Martin Wanyama, Lilian Chemuna, and James Mwaniki were arrested in connection with the case. The criminal trial commenced on February 9, 2022, at the Milimani Law Courts. The murder case is scheduled to resume on May 25, 2026.
