Mixed and edited by Mike Hetzel https://www.pretzelstudiosmke.com For this series I thought it would be fun to mimic Neil’s setup as closely as I could with my Pearl Masterworks kit. It took a bit of practice to get used to the tom positions, but it was a blast to play Rush songs on the “Rush” kit. I tried to match the tunings as well. I had never tuned my toms that high before, but it made those cascading Neil Peart tom fills really sing! Now a little history... Back in the summer of 2005 my dad was having band practice at our house and the drummer in that band, Tim Mallman, brought over “Rush in Rio” and my life was forever changed. That concert DVD was truly my first foray into the world of more complex, melodic, and compositional drumming…which led me down the path to discover some of my other favorite bands, and drummers, such as Mike Portnoy, Todd Sucherman, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Simon Phillips, and so many others.
