The all-electric open-wheel racer complies with the regulations of the updated third-generation Formula E cars called GEN3 Evo and features Porsche’s in-house developments in every aspect. The new Porsche 99X Electric made its online debut on October 24 in a film featuring Formula E safety car driver and GEN3 Evo development driver Bruno Correia. Key technical innovations include the activation of drive at the front wheels, higher-grip tyres and a modified front wing. World Champion Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa, last season’s winningest driver, retain their positions as drivers of the factory TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. At the wheel of the two Andretti Formula E customer cars will be former World Champion Jake Dennis and new Porsche factory driver Nico Müller. Refined developments in-house by Porsche The Evolution model inherits Porsche’s most successful formula sports car to date: the Porsche 99X Electric won the drivers’ world championship in the GEN3 version for two consecutive years – in 2022/2023 with Dennis and in 2023/2024 with Wehrlein. The concept remains the same: According to the regulations, the available energy is restricted. This forces teams and their drivers to optimize the efficiency of their cars in all areas. Components developed by the manufacturer were allowed to be modified for the GEN3 Evo. Porsche’s development department in Weissach seized the opportunity to exploit the optimization potential identified in the past two seasons, particularly in terms of handling. The homologation of the manufacturer’s components is once again valid for two seasons. The fourth car generation, the GEN4, will be introduced in Season 13 (2026/2027). From now on, front-wheel drive can be engaged in qualifying duels, race starts and during Attack Mode. This gives the cars temporary all-wheel drive and enables the Porsche 99X Electric to accelerate to 100 km/h in around two seconds. Making the engagement of the front-wheel drive as efficient as possible poses another technical challenge, as the lessons learned also benefit Porsche’s road cars. Porsche 99X Electric, Technical Data, 2024, Porsche AG Higher-performance tyres from exclusive supplier Hankook will help the Formula E cars reach even higher speeds in the new season. To reduce the footprint, each car will have only two sets of tyres per race weekend (three sets for the double-headers). The tyre profile makes the tyres suitable for both dry and wet conditions. The Evolution model is primarily recognisable by its modified front wing. The new shape should make it more stable and allow it to withstand contact better. Further changes to the finish have been made behind the roll bar and in front of the rear wheels. Purple Sky Metallic and Shade Green Metallic – these are the new colours in the finish of the Porsche 99X Electric. These were the colors Porsche used at the beginning of the year to introduce the new pioneer of electric sports cars on the road: the Taycan Turbo GT, the brand’s most powerful production car to date. Purple and green tones replace the traditional combination of black, white and red. They symbolize the transfer of technology from motorsport to production. The change of color also represents electrification and Porsche’s pioneering spirit: the aim is to visually express the company’s innovative strengths in progressive Formula E. In addition to Wehrlein and da Costa, two female drivers from the Czech Republic and Spain, Gabriela Jílková and Marta García, will be behind the wheel of two factory Porsches in Valencia.
