Dear friends and new visitors, with this video I begin the series dedicated to my trip to Poland and precisely to Krakow and Warsaw made during the Easter period. I had never visited this country and I must say that I was really pleasantly impressed for several reasons. I will start with Krakow, a real gem, where we landed to spend the first 3 days of the trip. In this video I will show you part of the fascinating historical center, the Old Town, with the presence of many truly spectacular Churches and Basilicas. We will begin by walking along the long Ulica Grodkza, one of the most characteristic and ancient streets of the city, which was part of the Royal Route traveled by the Polish sovereigns during the ceremonies to reach the Wawel. The street is framed by beautiful buildings and numerous Churches of great importance, such as that of Saints Peter and Paul and that of Andrew. Then we will continue visiting the splendid Dominican Basilica and then head, passing through Maly Rynek and the beautiful Plac Mariacki where the Church of Saint Barbara is located, to find ourselves in the famous and immense Rynek Glowny square, the most iconic of the city. It is the largest medieval square in Europe and collects beautiful buildings such as the Sukiennice, the ancient Cloth Hall, the Wieza Ratuszowa Tower, the only remnant of the Krakow Town Hall and the beautiful Kosciol Wojciecha Church. But above all, your attention will be caught by the splendid Basilica of Saint Mary, a true jewel of Gothic art characterized by its two non-identical and asymmetrical towers linked to a bloody legend of two brothers in dispute over who would have built the tallest tower, ended in tragedy. This Church is certainly one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. You will be struck by the ceiling characterized by a polychromy that reproduces a starry sky but above all by the spectacular altarpiece made by Stoss, with truly impressive details. We were lucky enough to see the morning opening ceremony, truly not to be missed. Then we will head towards the Barbakan, or the access road to the historic center that is part of the network of fortifications and defensive barriers that surrounded the city. The imposing structure dates back to 1498 and is one of the most beautiful military architecture structures in Europe and the best preserved. From here starts the Planty, the green lung of Krakow that develops in a circular direction embracing the historic center where the city walls once stood. The St. Florian's Gate gives access to Ulica Florianska, one of the most famous and crowded streets in Krakow that extends along the medieval heart of the city, also offering spectacular views of the Basilica of Santa Maria. Finally, some evening images of Rybek Glowny with its charming atmosphere that will surely capture you if you visit this magnificent city. Krakow is fascinating, rich in history, very pleasant to visit, quiet and on a human scale. And full of precious historical jewels. As always, I hope that my videos will keep you a few minutes of pleasant company and invite you to discover the places I show you. Warm greetings and hugs from Milan and see you soon with the next video of Krakow! Enjoy! Renata
