The talk is about the status of the informal workforce, the impact this workforce has on the GDP and growth and yet is gripped with fear and insecurity. It highlights the status of woman who form a critical segment of the said group. It presents a powerful example of how change could be brought and impact created through bringing together of these groups through story of Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA). It is a powerful narration of how economic empowerment is being created through solidarity and sisterhood. A social worker and coordinator at Self Employed Women’s Association, SEWA, Mirai Chatterjee was appointed as a member of the National Advisory Council in June, 2010. She is responsible for social security, health care, child care and insurance programs at SEWA and continues to fill the gap by inspiring women in the social sector by her relentless work in this space.
