The EO2 incarnation of Ur-Child isn't one that's typically notable amongst the final superbosses in the series. His skillset isn't that hard to play around for the most part, and he had the misfortune of showing up in a game with some of the most overpowered tools in the entire series. Even some of the worse parties out there can probably get past this fight by spamming Axcela IIs and certain Force skills. That's not even getting into how a Revenge Hexer can easily take off 10% of his HP every turn. Ur-Child has a fixed attack pattern, and as a result it's pretty easy to plan around. Turn 1: Sacrifice Turn 2: Hymn Turn 3: Boast Turn 4: Obey Turn 5: Boast Turn 6: Rest Turn 7: Solitude Turn 8: Anger Turn 9: Sadness Turn 10: Mercy Turn 11: Wildance Turn 12: Rest Turn 13: Begone And then it loops. Hymn is a unique skill that deals almost no damage to certain classes, but severe amounts of overkill to others. The classes differ per loop (though on the 3rd loop it's called Dirge for some reason). Rest is a breather turn. Here it only recovers 210 HP. Yes, 210. Anger, Sadness, and Mercy are the elemental attacks, and if you have a Protector with the walls maxed, they're just 3 free turns in a row. Begone is the big attack you need to worry about. If you don't have a way to deal with it, the fight is on a time limit because it will annihilate your party once cast. The most obvious method is using Painless to block the damage entirely. Dominate won't work since it doesn't use a body part. Riot Gun is actually not a good candidate, as a Gunner would need at least 201 AGI in order to outspeed Begone. Or 67 AGI if they happen to be using one of the few guns with a speed boost. Alternatively, if someone uses Baitstep, Provoke, Preen, or... Doze Off (I have no idea why this skill pisses off Ur-Child) on turn 12, he'll instead use End Wind. Which is basically a single target version of Begone that hits the same person twice. So that's also a way of ensuring your party stays in the fight. Ur-Child has a 3% chance of casting Heatskin anytime, which is an overkill counter because screw you. Wildance will be broken out early at a 5% chance if you use Bait or Magibat. Oh and if you have 12 or more buffs and he has 2 or more debuffs, he'll have a 60% chance of casting Light to erase your buffs. Do not place 3 debuffs on him or use Dampen! That'll cause him to have an 80% chance to use Release, which fully heals Ur-Child and erases all his debuffs. Yeah. Frailty is the better debuff anyways, as Ur-Child is neutral to all damage types. A neat thing is that there's now ending text for defeating Ur-Child. There was supposed to be such an event in EO2, but in true EO2 fashion, the scripting was bugged and the event didn't work properly. The game really couldn't have ended any other way, huh? At least the remaster fixed that. Oh yeah. If you're wondering what's with the "Daytime" in the title, yeah uhhhh. Ur-Child's behavior actually differs depending on the time of day. Everything I've said mostly only really applies to the daytime version. If you decide to fight this thing at night, his behavior completely randomizes! Good luck!
