Good. God. This. Was. Hell. At least The Battlefield That Never Sleeps was backported in instead of playing Drenched in Red like in the original. That's pretty neat. I'm sure several of you were wondering how on earth I was going to pull this off without a Protector, let alone a Medic. Or if I was going to cave and change my party to put in those classes. Well I managed without, and the answer as to how was VERY PAINFULLY! It took several hours to finally got an attempt that cleared this freaking fight! Primevil is not meant to be fought without a Protector, as it has elemental nukes that will obliterate your party if you don't use level 5 or above walls. It uses these on a set rotation. Explode the fire attack is used every 5 turns, Frigid the ice attack is used every 6 turns, and Storm the volt attack is used every 4 turns. If they overlap, the priority goes fire, ice, volt. The boosted Troubadour fantasias can serve as a substitute, but there's one major problem with them. Primevil gets pissy if you have 10 or more buffs on your party. And unlike EO3 and beyond, elemental resistance buffs stack, and they're permanent in this game, so pissing it off is inevitable. It'll use Resolve to wipe your buffs, and then attack you with a random elemental, uber heal itself with Segment, or inflict ailments on your entire party. Fortunately its scripted elementals take priority over it enraging, so if you time things right, the Resolve turns will be breathers instead of harbingers of impending doom. Oh and don't use multiple walls at once to circumvent keeping track of turns. It gets pissy in a different way and will just slam you with physicals or worse, Necrosis. The other big problem with the fantasias are that Axcella IIIs in this game cannot be used consecutively like they could in EO2. Unlike in EO2, the meter doesn't empty upon using boost. It only empties when the turn ends. This means that using an Axcella III on my Troubadour during a boost turn wastes the Axcella. Which is a big problem thanks to turns 5, 6, and 7, where it casts 3 elementals in a row. This was by far the biggest brick wall to get past, as with my party, it turned out the only way for me to safely get past that set of turns was to stun it with Apollon. Which only has a 4% chance of happening, or a 7% chance when boosted. Yeah, not great odds, but it was my only option. Oh yeah, even with a Protector, Primevil can just decide that you lose, as it can randomly cast Entangle, which has a 90% chance of full binding your entire party, or worse, Necrosis. Which is a 90% chance of an instant kill. You can't get immunity in this game, so the best you can do is stack up on Jewel Eyes to lower that chance down to 36%. Which wasn't an option for me. So while I didn't have to change my classes, I did have to change my setup around, as Primevil is completely immune to every single ailment and bind except for stuns. I got Dragonbanes for everyone and stocked up on Adamases, which provide 15% physical resistance per accessory, as that was the only way I could survive one of Primevil's completely overkill physicals. Without Immunize, that was my only option. Warhammer was the attack I wanted to see, as everyone could survive that one, and my Alchemist if she defended. It was also great fuel for Bait. Slash was a guaranteed kill even if the target defended, and Rush was a guaranteed kill if it hit someone twice. I also did some RNG manipulation in the first half of the fight, as that was pretty much the only way I could get past the turn 5, 6, and 7 whammy. Oh and also making sure the fight started off with a preemptive so I could avoid the initial Explode and get some more prep time that way. Past that point, I was just rushing down Primevil, as I wanted to get its HP below 25% before turn 10. Otherwise it would only cast Slash and Rush, which I didn't want to see. Getting it down to its last phase reintroduces Warhammer into its rotation. Unfortunately it also reintroduces Entangle and Necrosis as well. So make sure to finish off the fight quickly! Oh yeah, Primevil did get a slight AI buff in this version. In the DS version, if it cast Membrane during the period where its HP is between 75% and 50%, it would have an 80% chance of casting Necrosis and a 20% chance of casting HP Up. Which was bugged and did nothing. Now it's a 100% chance of casting Necrosis. Enjoy!
