Early mornings in Old Lahore have a charm of their own, especially on Independence Day. Just after sunrise, I set out to explore the historic streets and taste some of the city’s most loved street food. The day began with a glass of creamy lassi from the famous Jeda Lassi, rich and refreshing enough to wake up the senses. From there, I made my way to Meher Bashir Halwa Puri, where the combination of soft puris, flavorful chana and sweet halwa reminded me why Lahore’s breakfast culture is unmatched. The aroma of freshly baked naan khatai then pulled me towards Khalifa Bakery, a name that has been part of Old Lahore’s food legacy for decades. The warm, crumbly biscuits were a perfect mid-morning treat before heading to Waqas Biryani for a plate full of fragrant rice and tender meat, a true Lahori favourite. While moving through the narrow streets, I couldn’t resist stopping at Urdu Bazar to buy Pakistani flags, soaking in the festive atmosphere and the pride that comes with 14 August. This journey was more than just about food – it was about experiencing the spirit of Lahore, its traditions, and the warmth of its people on a day that means so much to every Pakistani. #streetfood #pakistan #chalain
