This skating loop is on an old peat pond near Fairbanks, AK. The Ice Dragon resurfaces ice at something over 1 mile per hour so it takes about 2 - 2 1/2 hours to lay down a 2-Ice-Dragon-width ice trail for all the different paths. An iPod with some music or podcasts is a great idea. There is a time window for this skating loop that can be as long as 4-5 weeks but may not happen at all, depending on the weather and how much shoveling you're willing to do. You hope for cold, dry weather so the ice thickens enough to skate on before the big snow comes, at which point the pond is turned over to the cross country skiers. A big snowfall at the wrong time can ruin the ice for the season. The Ice Dragon is the only way to resurface this trail. The early-season ice is not thick enough for a 4 wheeler pulling a water tank on a trailer, and there's no way to string out enough hose to flood the ice trail.
