In this video, I start the Nissan 350Z Mini restoration project, beginning with the first major phase: upgrading the suspension and tackling rust issues. Originally, the plan was just to replace the stock suspension with a new coilover setup. But as is often the case with older cars, it quickly became clear that much more work was required. I start with the front axle, removing the complete original suspension, underbody panels, and wheel arches to inspect for rust and damage. The wheel arches are thoroughly cleaned and freshly sealed before reinstalling the panels. Then I disassemble the old shocks, prepare the new coilover setup, and install it on the front axle. Next, I move on to the rear axle. After removing the original suspension and cleaning the wheel arches, I discover a lot of rust in the rear wheel arches at the rocker panel corners – a common issue on many 350Zs. To fix this, the damaged metal is cut out, new panels are fabricated and welded in, and everything is carefully sealed. The entire rear wheel arch is fully protected against future rust. Finally, the original shocks are disassembled, the strut mounts are cleaned, new seals are installed, and the coilovers are fitted to the rear axle.
