I did this on a 2001 Continental and it took just over an hour. and hour and 45 from start to finish. Jack up right side of car and remove the right wheel. Remove lower fender skirt so you have easy access to lower pullies Unbolt power steering reservoir and remove upper radiator hose at fitting. you will lose about 2 cups of antifreeze and move both of them out of the way so you have access to tensioner. You will have to jack up the motor about an inch to remove mounting bolt. I put a jack and block or wood under the oil pan. I used a 1/4 socket with a short t40 bit for extra room. the 3/8 was just to tight of a fit. Remove the bolt the whole way out and lower the tensioner out the bottom.. glad you removed the inner shield. clean out any junk in the spring whole. reinstall in reverse order. remove bolt from tensioner and lift tensioner up from bottom. install bolt and tighten. replace idler pulley. (may as well since you are here). route new belt ( it routes around the tensioner pulley from behind it. another reason to remove the inner shield.) installable and make sure running straight on all pulleys. replace power strong pump and re attach heater hose. add antifreeze . I ordered the parts from Advance auto online for store pickup and the total was 116.97 for the tensioner, upgrade belt and idler pulley. I found a $50. off $125.00 online code so i ordered new wiper blades to make the total over $125.00. to get my $50.00 off. The parts only cost me $74. plus a discount on thew wiper blades too. Good luck, be careful and it is not as bad as it seams. I wish I would have done it before mine came apart. It has been squeaking for 6 months.
