Wide pan of rally SHOTLIST Zimbabwe's opposition on Sunday accused the county's authorities of printing millions of surplus ballot papers, raising the risk of vote-rigging in next week's presidential and legislative elections. At the largest election rally so far in Zimbabwe's capital, Harare, leader of the MDC Morgan Tsvangirai, told thousands of his supporters, "we will line up at those polling stations and were are going to vote in our millions. We will witness the last gasp of the dictatorship come the 29th of March." But Secretary General of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Tendai Biti, said leaked documents from the government's security printers showed 9 (m) million ballot papers were ordered for the 5.9 (m) million registered voters on Saturday. Opposition groups have also protested over last-minute changes to voting procedures allowing police a supervisory role inside polling stations. The independent Zimbabwe Election Support Network said the police presence intimidated voters and it was investigating proposed alterations to vote-counting and verification arrangements at polling stations. Addressing fears of mass vote rigging, Tsvangirai said, "we will not leave those polls, when we vote we stay at the polls, when we vote we defend our vote, when we vote we celebrate our victory." Western nations have been barred from sending observer delegations by Mugabe. In campaigning so far, Tsvangirai, 55, and former finance minister and ruling party loyalist Simba Makoni, 57, reported a groundswell of opinion blaming Mugabe for the acute shortages of food, gasoline and most goods and the world's highest official inflation rate of 100,500 percent. At least 80 percent of the population lives below the poverty line of 1 US dollar a day. Tsvangirai's supporters at the rally expressed optimism about the elections. "Mugabe has forgotten that we put him into office, this time around we are taking him out, Morgan Tsvangirai is winning," one women told AP Television. Economic hardship is a key issue in the national elections.
