New year, new anomly fan: the ORBIT Box Fan, model 25 BSN. It’s not very common to find a rotary-style box fan in sizes other than 12 inches, and this one is the 10-inch version, which makes it quite unusual. From what I’ve seen, ORBIT is a brand that often imported unique and slightly unconventional fan designs, and this smaller box fan is a good example of that. As far as I know, this model came in sky blue and light gray. I chose the blue one simply because its physical condition was better than the others I found. That said, this fan was not problem-free. Performance-wise, the bushing was completely stuck, and the blade couldn’t rotate at all at first. I manually rotated the blade by hand, and surprisingly, it started moving freely again—although it produced some grinding noises at certain speeds. After a few days of use, the synchronous motor eventually stopped working, so I replaced it with another synchronous motor. Unfortunately, the replacement motor has a different speed, making the rotary movement extremely slow. I decided to leave it as it is, since the airflow actually spreads more evenly this way, in my opinion. After a thorough cleaning and a small service, this fan is finally ready to shine. In terms of performance, this fan is both the quietest and the noisiest fan in my collection. Yes, both. On low speed, it’s extremely quiet and gentle, almost like a “sleepy breeze” fan. However, once you move to speed 2, it becomes noticeably noisy, especially when the motor is still cold. Airflow is fair, not strong, but consistent. It can push air evenly up to around 5 meters, which is decent for its size. This is not a fan I’d use daily, though. The thermal performance seems questionable: after running for more than 30 minutes, a plastic smell starts to appear, and the motor becomes very hot to the touch, even though the rotation isn’t heavy or jammed. For now, I’ll leave this fan as it is, purely as a collection piece.
