Abby McKee is the President and CEO of Britt Music & Arts Festival, a position she began in May 2022. With a background in nonprofit leadership and a passion for arts, McKee has been instrumental in revitalizing the festival's operations and programming. Her leadership has been marked by a focus on community engagement, program development, and the promotion of arts and culture in Southern Oregon. McKee's experience includes managing the strategy and operations of the oldest period orchestra in the United States and overseeing a large public park and amphitheater. Her work has also involved creating and managing projects for artists and arts organizations both in the U.S. and abroad. Abby is excited to share about the inspiring happenings at Britt right now! Their 2026 season is shaping up beautifully, our new Winter Chamber Series has been well received and a welcome addition to Britt's offerings, and the US Bank Hotel renovation is off to a great start with the fabulous work of Arkitek, S&B James and George Kramer of Preserve Oregon. FIRST POSTING FOR MEMBERSHIP Toni Richardson has been proposed for membership. Kelly Moodie is her proposer. WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST MEMBER Tackett Austin was born in 1966 in Southern California but moved with his family to Josephine County shortly before he started first grade. Tackett attended local schools and graduated in 1984 from North Valley High School. He attended the University of Oregon, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature and a Master’s in Education. Tackett began his work career as a classroom teacher in Springfield, Ore., but left teaching to work in technology with the Springfield School District. From there he migrated to Los Angeles to ride the first dot-com boom, then began working as a fabricator and machinist. He parlayed his skills into building complicated sets and props for TV commercials and then worked on a Bay Area TV show — a spinoff of “Myth Busters” — and was later hired by a “BattleBots” team as a fabricator and to handle logistics. While living in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, he contributed his skills as a fabricator and machinist to various art exhibits. Tackett is just ending a 12-year career as a consultant focused on a mix of tech companies and education. “It’s been a pretty fun ride,” he said. Tackett moved back to the Grants Pass area about eight years ago and built a house and shop next door to his parents, Linda and Earl Austin. He’s interested in becoming more involved in the local community, and when he realized the type of events Rogue Gateway Rotary sponsors, joining the club seemed like a good way to give back to the community.
