Single Gallop Frame Running Movements, remind of gallop, just with one leg Athletes having a weak or spastic side being hemiplegic affected naturally works most with the better side of the body. Some can do smooth movements while others have spasticity affecting their movements. Some may strap one leg in a sling. Technique in Single Gallop They may be able to use both legs at the start using a normal running technique, but as soon as they go fast the poor side can’t follow the rhythm of the better side. Then the leg on the hemiplegic side is only doing a weak short counter acting stride if any at all. Because there is no real counter momentum of the one leg, the good leg tends to have a slower rhythm but a good follow through movement. Also, one leg amputee runner follows this pattern. Positions and weight distribution In Single Gallop The upper body leans on the chest plate at about 45 degrees. The runner leans on the plate with the stomach and lower rib cage. The height and type of plate differ from runner to runner. Type and position of handlebar depend fully on the hand and arm function which varies a lot according to their ability. Some use an ordinary racing handlebar. Some built extra handles on a mountain bike handlebar. The saddle has a nose drop of 15 – 25 degrees, to allow good follow through and close enough to stop the athlete from sliding backwards. Most weight of the body rests on the saddle. The saddle height might be lifting the heel a bit off the ground..
