📅 Date: October 23 🕕 Time: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM EST Join us for an engaging lecture exploring Myrlande Constant’s remarkable Vodou drapo (ritual flags) — stunning works that depict spirits socializing together as Milokan, when the totality of their powers are combined. This talk will highlight themes of mermaids and aquatic beings, ancestors and spirits of the dead, and Catholic saints reimagined as Haitian spirits, with special attention to flags housed in the Tampa Museum of Art’s collection. Guest Speaker: 🎙️ Dr. Kyrah Malika Daniels Assistant Professor of African American Studies at Emory University. Dr. Daniels specializes in Africana religions, sacred arts, and material culture. Her first book, Art of the Healing Gods (Duke University Press, 2026), examines artifacts used in Haitian and Congolese healing ceremonies. She has served as Junior Curator at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History and is currently Vice President of KOSANBA, a Scholarly Association for the Study of Haitian Vodou.
