While AI revolutionizes research processes through automated literature reviews, data analysis, and result interpretation and dissemination, it raises critical questions about academic merit and knowledge production. The panel addresses how to maintain research integrity while leveraging AI capabilities, develop ethical guidelines for AI integration, and adapt evaluation criteria for scholarly excellence in an era where AI-assisted research becomes increasingly prevalent. Additionally, we will discuss the development of ethical guidelines for AI use in scholarly work and the importance of transparency in acknowledging AI contributions. Through this discussion, we aim to advance our understanding of how communication researchers can thoughtfully integrate AI tools while preserving the fundamental values of academic inquiry and adapting to this transformative moment in our field.
