NON SUPPORTER OF THE ULTRAVOX UNOFFICIAL REGIME! "Love's Great Adventure" "Vienna" "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" This was both a fantastic and historic performance. Historic? Indeed and for a good reason. Moments before Ultravox took to the stage an emotional Bob Geldof made a telephone call to the Newcastle Upon Tyne television studio from where the show was being broadcast live. The date was November 4th 1984. Geldof ended up speaking to Midge Ure about a news report he'd just seen on the BBC about the famine in Ethiopia. This phone call was where the seeds of the Band Aid project were sewn. The rest, as they say, is history... The performance is superb. The only downside is the band used backing tracks on all three songs to enhance their sound for the live broadcast. This is particularly evident with Midge's multitracked vocals and guitar on "Loves Great Adventure" and "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes". The sound quality of the audio on all the copies of this I could find was crap and in mono. So I found the best audio source and enhanced it with several tweaks. The performance can now also be enjoyed in stereo. The video element has also been tidied up a little. Of note. This is the unedited footage. On the original TV broadcast "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" was cut short due to the show overrunning slightly. The song is featured here in full plus the bonus footage of the band leaving the stage, some studio guy waffling and someone popping into view and switching off the camera! Enjoy.
