Propane Tank Leveling-How to level your propane tank If you live in the county, and your house uses propane for heating, stove, oven, water heater, etc, then you might find this video useful. I created this video for those who might have a propane tank in their yard which might need leveling. Over the years, a propane tank, which has been resting/sitting in the grass, can eventually become un-level, and could possibly fall off one end of the foundation (bricks, or blocks), then leak all of its gas vapors. Before you begin this leveling process, insure you turn-off the gas valve on the top of the propane tank, which is underneath the bib cover. Additionally, I recommend turning off the gas valve at the house end. You'll need small gravel rocks to put down for the foundation. I used small rocks, which I swept-up from my asphalt driveway, shoveling them into a 5 gallon bucket. Once I removed the existing concrete blocks, on one end of the tank, I then used a sharp-shooter shovel & garden hoe, to remove enough dirt to spread-out 2 inches of gravel for the foundation. My existing 8 inch concrete blocks will reused and set back in-place on top of the new rock bed foundation. I began the process of removing the concrete blocks by first raising one end of the tank by pushing an automobile jack under one end of the tank, stopping in the exact middle of the bottom of one end of the tank. I raised the automobile floor jack enough to be able to remove the 8 inch blocks, on one end only. I then dug a smooth flat area for the concrete blocks to sit on, then spread the rocks evenly on the dirt foundation. Using a piece of plywood laying on top of the dirt ground, I used a bubble level to prove the ground was level, having to use a garden hoe to shave the dirt, wherever needed. I then poured the gravel/rocks onto the dirt foundation, then laid the plywood on top of the gravel this time, to insure the gravel foundation was level. Once leveled properly, I then removed the plywood. I then lifted the blocks and carefully laid the block on the gravel, then checked the blocks with the level again. I swept a few rocks under each block to slightly level an area of the block. I layed a 2 x 4 board, length wise to the propane tank, resting it on the concrete blocks end-to-end, checking the level again. The final level measurement was taken on top of the propane tank. I was maybe 1/8 inches off on one end of the tank, which was acceptable to me. I finished-up the project by pushing dirt back in-place around the concrete blocks. All-in-all, I was very pleased with the results.
