A gentle return for the 2026 season with this 7.5 mile riverside walk (the 'main' walk is 8.85 miles, including the walk to the station) in Norfolk. There was a break in the recent rainy period, and with sunny intervals forecast, this walker was on the train. With a gentle SE breeze, the walking conditions were pretty good. After an initial 0.75 mile walk along the pavement to the Great Ouse, the bulk of the remaining walk is on the grass-surfaced flood-defence wall, which wasn't needed today, thankfully, despite high river levels. There's both a pub and a church option for an early lunch at Wiggenhall St Germans, around 3.25 miles in, but not much thereafter. After around 6 miles, there's an option to visit West Lynn and get a ferry back across the Great Ouse, or walk straight into Kings Lynn. The highest point on this walk is 21 feet, and the lowest 5 feet below sea-level, reflecting the flood risk to this area. The paths weren't bad at all today, considering the rain that has already fallen this year, visible in the fields. N.B. Apologies for the shaky section where I was trying to film a raptor; I'll have to find a way to remedy this as I age, without having to carry a tripod. If anyone can identify the bird, let me know. It seemed a bit large to be a Kite, but might be a Harrier? The Egret was a 'Little'one, upon further reflection and I was correct with my original statement about a Reed 'Bunting' as Warblers wouldn't be here yet.
