On 30 May 2022 higher than normal water temperatures at A-Frame (17-18 degrees Celsius, vs. the more normal 13-14 degrees), Cape Town, resulted in vibrant, active fish life. With so many fish around I decided to see how many species I could video, concentrating mostly on the free-swimming species. The aim of this video is to show these various species and identifying them, with the hope that this may be useful to divers who otherwise might struggle to tell them apart. A-Frame is a popular Cape Town False Bay-side shore dive site, because it has good parking and easy access, but it is one of my favorites because the marine life is actually very good here, with great diversity and variety. It is not a big site, but there is plenty to explore and experience. In the video I used the most commonly-used common name. Here are the common and scientific names of the fish, in order of appearance: Hottentot - Pachymetopon blochii Roman - Chrysoblephus laticeps Redfingers - Cheilodactylus fasciatus Butterfish or two-tone fingerfin - Chirodactylus brachydactylus Zebra - Diplodus cervinus hottentotus Blacktail or dassie - Diplodus sargus capensis Fransmadam - Boopsoidea inornata Jutjaw - Parascorpis typus White stumpnose - Rhabdosargus globiceps Cape knifejaw or black parrotfish - Oplegnatus conwayi Galjoen - Dichistius capensis Strepie - Sarpa salpa Maasbanker - Trachurus trachurus Super klipfish – Clinus superciliosus Mosaic klipfish – Clinus musaicus Puffadder shyshark - Haploblepharus edwardsii
