I make a lot of spoons. Early on, I found myself breaking lots of them swinging an axe, so I needed a way to work on them once they got thinner that didn't result in losing so many. I saw picture on the internet of a "lap shave" and started trying to figure out how to adopt it for my requirements? (Robin Fawcett, if you want the original source) I travel locally and frequently demonstrate spoon carving in public, so portability was a requirement. I am also not looking to be uncomfortable, so I wanted to be able to use a camp chair as part of the solution. Lastly, one trip carrying everything was a stretch goal, because I'm a typical guy :-) At 2.5#, I can strap this to the chair carrier and sling the 5# package over my shoulder. The spoon mule attachment breaks down in a second to fit in my tote, and I carry tools in one trip. (Jarrod Dahl is the source for the mule inspiration) Finally, David Fisher's bowl mule was the inspiration for the bowl attachment. If you haven't seen his work or Jarrod's... make sure you go there next. The spoon community is awesome. Hope to see you out in the wild someday. -Steven
