Trapping hands is a core drill in Modern Arnis. This video is a basic intro to trapping hands to get you started in the flow and then begin to modify targets, change roles, insert techniques, and add pressure to challenge the drill. Many styles have versions of this drill, also known as kadena de mano, or de kadena. Changes can either keep or break the flow, and trapping hands can be a great vehicle to branch off from during that flow. Let us know in the comments if you would like to see a followup with combination attacks, other inserts, advanced options, etc in another Modern Arnis Basics video at some point or perhaps just some additional inserts or changeups in a future JOT. 0:00 Intro 0:15 Basic description 0:30 Walk-through: Parry, Control, Strike and relation to Block, Check, Counter 1:24 Inside or outside of arm: either hand to initiate, not just stick hand 2:09 Basic fine points: control, power (hips, back), strikes types, targets 4:28 Limit their defensive options 5:05 Combine into the basic give and take drill - (inside/outside) 6:50 Give and take drill with both people working the outside (outside/outside) 7:59 Change between inside/outside version to outside/outside 8:08 Other ways to change from inside to outside 10:33 Variation: parrying with the outside of your hand instead of palm 10:52 Challenging the drill: pressure via balance and drive 12:23 Challenging the drill: different targets and angles 14:13 Challenging the drill: inserting traps, locks, throws, jam/smother, etc 16:57 Why do a drill? 17:23 Recap methods to start challenging the drill 17:41 Outro Follow PG Tye Botting Website: http://www.kungfu.cc Facebook: Tye's Kung Fu #ModernArnis #FilipinoMartialArts #FMA #Arnis #Kali #Eskrima #TyeBotting #MartialArts #TyesKungFu #TrappingHands #DeKadena
