Rain, wind and autumn arrives yet there is more the garden gives. Harvests to come & winter prep.

It's that time of year when we really start looking forward to what winter may bring and preparing for it. In the garden it's protecting the plants and their structures from high winds, blight, mildew, and sitting water. Summer is put away (the pool) and we start sorting the netting and plastic to cover the beds once taller harvests are done. Water butts have already been cleaned out when emptied in the summer and now we need to regularly clear the gutters of fallen leaves as the season progresses. These are not chores but seasonal pleasures that keep us in tune with the seasons and nature and help us prepare for each coming season so we can enjoy them and reduce the chances of costly damage or prepare us to be warm, comfortable, fed and well during the colder months. THAT is one of the joys of suburban homesteading by the seasons.
