Creating a Prairie Grass Burn Buffer Zone ― Burning the Weeds

Today I burned the remnants of the foxtail invasion by the barn! It actually took two days to get this burn done because it was too windy for the first day and a half. I burned last year in this same area, and decided it's about time to get the buffer zone planed so I never have to burn the ultra long weed material again! The plan — now that the area is burned — is to plant perennial rye right up against the barn as a cool season grass fire block, and plant the rest of the area up to where the future road will be in blue gramma and likely buffalo grass as soon as I can get more seed. These short warm season grasses can be trimmed or left long, and occasionally burned without fear of catching the barn on fire! Eventually all of the buildings will either have cool season nurse grass, turf grass, or the combination of blue gramma and buffalo grass growing around them.
